GPS Repeaters For Ambulance Stations

Mobile data terminals in ambulances use the GPS signal to formulate the fastest route to the location of an incident.

The MDT also updates the status screens in the control centre so that its location is always known.

The Challenge

When vehicles are under cover, the GPS signal can’t penetrate the building structure, which means that:
- On-board MDTs and satnav devices no longer receive GPS positioning data.
- The MDT continues to indicate its location to the control centre, but this is now ‘stale’ data.
- The location indicated to the control centre will be derived from where it last received a live signal – just before it entered the station.
- When an ambulance exits the building, there can be a long delay (up to 6 or 7 minutes) until the MDT (and/or satnav) re-acquires a GPS fix.

A GPS repeater system installed in an ambulance station ensures that:

A “live” GPS signal is available inside the station at all times.
MDT and satellite navigation equipment in vehicles remain locked-on to the GPS signal when indoors.
When ambulances leave the station they already have GPS lock, hence there is zero satellite acquisition delay.
Ambulance crews can navigate to their destination without delay.

A GPS repeater kit comes with all you need to get indoor GPS signal in an ambulance station.

For larger areas where one single repeater is not enough we can offer a custom-designed-system to meet your exact requirement.

When a repeater is mounted on the ceiling, for example on a roof beam, the coverage area below would be approximately 35 metres diameter.

The ideal position for the repeater unit is where there is line-of-sight to the GPS receiving antennas on the appliances.
