CHAIN repeater option to simplify cabling
Using the CHAIN method of connecting multiple repeaters to a single outdoor antenna.
Usually there is one antenna, one coaxial cable and one repeater unit in a GNSS/GPS repeater system.
If signal is needed in more than one area inside a building, we can install repeaters that share a single outdoor antenna in a custom-designed system.
This is usually achieved by connecting the repeaters together in a star topology using amplifiers and splitters.
However, there are three repeaters in the range that can be connected in a CHAIN configuration, which means that they are effectively connected in series.
This can simplify the RF and DC power cabling if it is not possible to install cables back to a central point.
Also useful if AC power is not available at the repeater locations.
Diagram shows two repeaters with coaxial cable connected between the RF OUT port of repeater #1 and the RF IN port of repeater #2.
Both repeaters are powered by a local AC/DC power supply.
These repeaters are CHAINed together by a coaxial cable and a DC power cable.
There is a single AC/DC power supply at one end that is capable of powering several repeaters in a CHAIN.
The PSU can be placed at either end of the CHAIN.
This is an example of how three repeaters can be CHAINed together, powered from one AC/DC PSU at one end of the network.
One RF input and one RF output (-4dB).
The PSU provides power for all three repeaters.
The left-hand repeater supplies 5V DC to power the amplifier and the antenna LNA.
Repeater GNSS-L1G1GA-CHAIN-Y allows one CHAIN repeater to be the centre of the network, connecting to other repeaters located in different directions.
One RF input and two RF (+4dB) outputs
The PSU provides power for all three repeaters; they can be individually powered from a local supply if preferred.
The centre repeater supplies 5V DC to power the amplifier and the antenna LNA.
There are three repeaters that offer CHAIN functionality:
- GNSS-L1G1GA-CHAIN – GPS L1, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou – signal input is at one end of the CHAIN.
- GNSS-L1G1GA-CHAIN-Y – GPS L1, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou – signal input is at the centre of the CHAIN.
- GNSS-L1L2G1GA-67 – GPS L1 & L2, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou – CHAIN functionality built-in.
